Types of Breweries (Brewers Association Definitions)

  • Microbrewery: < 15,000 barrels/year, ≥75% sold off-site

  • Brewpub: Restaurant-brewery, ≥25% sold on-site, food is a major component

  • Taproom Brewery: On-site sales focused, limited/no food, <15,000 barrels/year

  • Regional Brewery: 15,000-6,000,000 barrels/year, widely distributed

  • Contract Brewing Co.: Outsources production to another brewery, owns brand/marketing

  • Alternating Proprietorship: Multiple licensed brewers share facility and equipment
