Musings of a Curious Beer Drinker

Introductions

Maryland Beer Focus

The Maryland Beer Journal & Atlas focuses on Maryland beer — only Maryland, only beer.

Below is a quick guideline on how to navigate MBJA.

  • Journal — is about the news, commentary, plus places I have traveled in the quest for great beer. The main focus is the breath of breweries around Maryland, USA.

  • Atlas — displays a map of every brewery in Maryland

  • Events — provides a list of beer events and festivals across the state

  • Treks — presents a bite-sized list of breweries based on relative proximity

  • Opinions — a place to share your voice about Maryland beer topics

  • Shop — is where patrons can purchase original beer apparel to support DBJ

Greetings… my name is Jack Perdue, and I established the Maryland Beer Journal & Atlas (MBJA) in February 2025. The name says it all — only Maryland, only beer, the stories, and the places.

I began writing about beer through the Deep Beer Journal (DBJ) in February 2013. It was a way to document my journey to enjoying and understanding the world's great beers and the path to getting there. The motto for those writings has been Journey - Knowledge - Beer.

I am a first-level Cicerone and am studying to advance my certification.

Since 2008, I have also been the “beer guy” at The Winery, a premium bottle shop for wine, beer, and spirits on Kent Island, MD. There, I am the purveyor of beer and keeper of the well-stocked craft beer cooler. My focus is to provide the best beers available to customers. The Winery supports Maryland breweries and offers beer from more than 20 Maryland breweries.

Mid-Atlantic Brew News

Since mid-2019, I have been writing the Maryland column for the Mid-Atlantic Brew News. This allows me to meet many of Maryland’s amazing beer people and learn about how and why they pursue this thing we call craft beer.
